Since 1981 The Hague International Model United Nations Foundation (THIMUN) has organised an annual simulation of the United Nations for high school students around the world. It has become a unique educational experience of the highest quality, attended by more than 3,500 participants. This year, THIMUN celebrates 50 years of THIMUN, King Willem-Alexander will open the conference this year in World Forum The Hague at 29 january.
The THIMUN Foundation is an NGO accredited by the Department of Public Information, and in Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council, of the United Nations. THIMUN aims at organizing an MUN conference in The Hague and Singapore at least once every year.
THIMUN also conducts training workshops and seminars throughout the year to prepare delegates and educators alike. This training ranges from teaching the delegates how to prepare for the conference to providing educators with the information and knowledge needed to integrate the program into their school curriculum.
The international and multicultural nature of the conference broadens the students’ perceptions of the world they live in, as well as teaching them multicultural understanding and tolerance. This makes the conference attractive to both educators and students. For educators it offers their students an opportunity to learn through an exciting project, and for the students it takes teaching out of the classroom and appeals directly to the students’ personal interests.
